The Name Crystal comes originally from the Greek word “Krystallos” meaning ice!  Its clearness is due to the fact that it is the purest of all Crystals not discolored by the presence of any other minerals deep inside the earth when it is formed.

In primitive times, due to the fact that a Crystal transmits heat and is cool to the touch. People originally thought that Crystals were ice that had lost its ability to melt!

The Native American Indians, Mayans, Aztecs, Celts & Tibetan Buddhists traditionally used the Crystal to recognize the origin of disease.

Since ancient times it was believed the Crystal held numerous Healing Properties. Remedies include reducing fever, alleviating thirst, relieving fevers etc. This Gem Stone was also used to dispel negative energy.

GARNET GEM STONE NECKLACE AND STERLING GARNET EARRINGS

Garnets are definitely one of my most favourite Gem Stones.

This beautiful Deep Red Gem Stone originally got its name from the Latin word Pomegranate! In the 14th century it was thought that these Gems resembled the deep red seeds of this fruit.

Mythology states that this is the Gem Stone of Love & PASSION. It is said to be the “Gem Stone of Commitment” -to Purpose, to Others and to Oneself. With such beautiful and valuable symbolisms, this Gem Stone makes a very special gift.

LAPIS LAZULI GEM STONE NECKLACE

Lapis Lazuli is a beautiful deep Blue colored Gem Stone. Although this Gem Stone is found around the world, it was first discovered in mines in Afghanistan by Marco Polo around 1271 and has a facinating history. It was exported all across the world from Afghanistan in ancient times.

The Ancient Egyptians used it mainly for their Seals (no not the furry creatures..we mean the Seal Rings that the Kings used to wear! It was a Royal Stone in Ancient Egypt especially loved by Cleopatra, who even started wars in order to get her hands on large supplies of this Gem Stone!

This Gem Stone is known as the Stone symbolizing Truth & Integrity. Mythology states that it is said to enhance Serenity, Success in Relationships & Self Acceptance.

BLACK ONYX GEM STONES by SAPPHIRE DAWN JEWELRY

One of the most Classic and attractive of all Gem Stones is most certainly, Black Onyx. This stone is a beautiful Black Gem Stone. When cut professionally it sparkles as the light catches it.

History tells us that Black Onyx was one of the Gem Stones said to be worn in the Breastplate of the High Priest in Biblical times. There was also a Black Onyx Gem Stone in the Breast Plate that Aaron carried as he lead the Israelites out of capitivity in Egypt. FRESH WATER PEARL JEWELRY : LEGEND of the PEARL

According to an old Legend, Pearls were formed in the following way. At a certain time of year far out to sea, oysters would rise to the surface in the ocean beneath the full Moons rays. They would open their shells and then be fertilized by drops of dew in the Moonlight. They then return to the bed of the ocean and lie in their secret places while the Pearl is being formed.

Now today we know that scientifically, a Pearl is formed when a grain of sand enters the shell of the oyster. As the sand grain rolls against the inside of the shell it is coated with Mother of Pearl as it grows & is transformed to become the Pearl.

Because of this process, it is said that the Pearl holds the key of turning ‘the Insignificant into the Beautiful’.

Chanel Miller, Owner and Founder of SAPPHIRE DAWN JEWELRY and SAPPHIRE DAWN DESIGN : About Me

I decided to write this note as many people still dont know exactly what it is that I do 🙂

So here goes: I grew up in a small seaside village 30min from Cape Town in South Africa. I now live in London, United Kingdom and commute between here and South Africa every 3 to 4 months.

I am the Owner of SAPPHIRE DAWN JEWELRY, a Fair Trade company that trains and teaches underprivileged young woman to manufacture high quality Jewelry and Gifts. SAPPHIRE DAWN is based in Cape Town, South Africa but due to us being Wholesaler’s we mail to anywhere in the world on request.

Our Girls at SAPPHIRE DAWN JEWELRY dont believe in handouts and want to earn a living in a Fair & Dignified way. Our motto is to ‘teach a person to fish instead of handing out fish’. The is no greater gift than creating opportunities through Employment for people to break out of poverty. Unemployment in South Africa is 30%, one of the highest in the world.

Our mission is to bring back Hope and Dignity to previously unemployed people. We wish to distribute exceptionally beautifully hand made Jewelry to all parts of the world and develop awareness and support for Fairly Traded Products.

Other than that, I am trained to teach Basic Business Skills to all Entrepeneurs through my registered business, SAPPHIRE DAWN DESIGN. Being an Entrepreneur is a solution to unemployment figures across the world and helps boost Economies at grass roots level. My passion is to see success and confidence in my own team members as well as developing that in other Entrepeneurs who strive to make a success in their own lives.

I have assisted many owners of businesses to develope their Brands and boost their Online Optimisation through Social Media as well as having a good and well-functioning website. Through consultation with them, I discuss who their target market is and also how to engage their relevant target market with their business online. SAPPHIRE DAWN DESIGN chooses one disadvantaged school in S.Africa per year and funds equipping them with Educational Toys and necessary Educational Merchandise through a percentage of income per month. I honestly believe the answer to Happiness is to seek your Purpose using your talents and working in the area of what you are most passionate about. Work will never be unfulfilling if you are working in your purpose or if you enjoy what it is that you do. All our employess are very important to us att Sapphire Dawn Jewelry. We value and embrace the following principles :

1) Secure, stable & pleasant Working Conditions for our team (They work from my home & feel part of the Family)

3) Caring for other needs of workers, eg. Health or Emotional needs offering support, advice & counseling. Confidence building through group discussions & task allocations. Our emphasis is on Woman’s rights and training our Girls to proudly stand up for their rights in their communities.

4) Support for Mother’s with Children (provided access to health care etc.)

5) Holiday pay and sick leave pay, Christmas & Birthday surprises.

6) Sensible & Fair Working Hours (This is worked out on a Voluntary basis-all our Girls volunteer for shifts and choose their own hours)

7) Equal pay for both genders (we support a small team of guys who hand craft our display stands for us)

8) Socially inclusive, employment of people who are HIV positive or physically challenged. We protect their right to confidentiality if requested by them.

9) Additional education or betterment programs available to all our workers. (I like to place quite a big emphasis on this) Such as options to learn basic Computer Skills, Office Duties, Typing, Liaising directly with Clients etc.

10) Incentives for delivering excellent work, such as outings to Art Galleries, Museums, Wine Farms, Nature Conservation Parks etc. We try to arrange these as often as possible.

11) Where possible we re-cycle or use re-cycled materials & educate our Team with understanding the value of re-cycling.
